COVID-19: How to separate "Work" from "Home"

Adjusting to a work from home situation might be overwhelming for others. Home is where you escape from your workload and vice versa. Before, you could go to a bar to de-stress after work, or go out with friends to escape the mental load at home. But now, everything is compacted into the 4 corners of your house and this takes a toll on you and your performance. Take it from us to help you adjust and help you separate your "Work" from "Home":

  • Create your own workspace

We know it’s tempting to buy those foldable desks so you can work in your bed but this is exactly how that thin line between work and home gets crossed. Create a little work space anywhere in your house that kinda replicates the one you have in your office.

  • Block out any distractions

Speaking of creating your own workspace, make sure this is away from distractions like your neighbors’ loud music, kids’ room, or the kitchen.

  • Get ready as you normally would

Just because you work from home, doesn’t mean you get to stay in your PJs all day! We know it sounds comfortable but over time it gets sloppy. Take a shower, eat your breakfast, change into another set of clothes (it could be another set of PJs, just change!).

  • Make a to-do list for the day

List down the things you need to get done so you don’t overwork yourself.

  • Have a break!

Like any job, you deserve a break. Take your scheduled breaks like you would in the office. Advantages of working from home is that you have a lot of things to do during your break. Make lunch, play with your kids, take a bath, etc.

  • Keep up the routine

Once you’ve established your new work routine, try to keep up with it and you’ll be working with ease, you might not want to go back to the office again ;)

  • C O M M U N I C A T E

One thing people miss about the office is the social interaction you get on a daily basis and this is not readily available in a WFH situation. Luckily there are platforms like Slack and Zoom to help you communicate with your team!
